We are very pleased to present Adagio!'s "Str8 Off The DAT", the third release of the duo comprised of Obvious Wonder (also known as Carta' P.) and Ray Foges (also known as Ray Supreme) on 90's Tapes. Berlin, Germany, sometime early, early nineties. 3 MCs share a dream, a dream of taking this rap thing to the max. It wasn't long before Doubleface, Boogieman and Big Sal started making noise in the streets of the capitol and by the mid-nineties the band Harleckinz was a household name in Germany's rap music scene. It is these demos here which would eventually break the band and secure various major deals. The rest is history - yet another beautiful rap story originated in Hip Hop's golden era.

"90two90six" contains 25 never before released demo tracks and instrumentals recorded between 1992 and 1996 next to 5 tracks which have been originally released on "From The Levels Below".

In 1994, the Boogiemonsters stepped on the scene with their debut "Riders Of The Storm: The Underwater Album". The quartet consisting of Vex, Mondo, Myntric and Yodared, scored with a bright atmosphere throughout the entire album, pairing food for thought with laid-back productions.

"Station Identification" marked the 1995 debut album by Channel Live with productions mostly handled by KRS-One next to Salaam Remi and Rheji Burrell. The duo comprised of Hakim Green and Tuffy created a certain impact on the scene with tracks like "Mad Izm" or "Sex For The Sport", and also remixes by the likes of Buckwild and Easy Mo Bee made the release a fan favorite amongst Hip Hop heads worldwide.

Originally set to be released in 1996, the self-titled debut "The Black Spooks" finally gets the official release treatment. The trio consisting of Dirty Birdy, Sly Boogy and DJ KMP represented the Inland Empire region of California, sporting a more progressive Westcoast sound but still keeping it street. The album was planned to be released on Perspective Records, but it never saw the light of day until now. 18 tracks in total straight from DJ KMP's original DAT's.

Set to be released in 1995, Supernatural's debut "Natural Disasters" got shelved and never saw an official release until now. 21 tracks of pure Golden Era heat by one of the most respected freestyle MC's in Hip Hop, entirely produced by Djinji Brown.

Originally released in 1995, "Scars And Pain" marked the debut by Brooklyn-native Jemini The Gifted One. "Manifest Destiny" is the first and only release of the Urban Thermo Dynamics, the group formed by Mos Def along his younger brother DCQ and high-school friend Ces. The album was slated for release in 1995, but never saw an official release until 2004 through DCQ's Illson Media Music Group. Almost 20 years later this nugget finally gets the reissue treatment available in a limited run on 2LP (750 copies), CD in jewel case (300 copies), cassette (100 copies) and digitally on all major platforms.

The album contains 14 tracks in total with productions handled by the likes of Diamond D and Showbiz of D.I.T.C. fame, Salaam Remi, J Prins, The Vibe Chemist, J-Swift and YZ.

"Raw Rythms" is kind of a best of release of Mik's mixtape sessions from 1996/97. The Berlin-based founder of legendary German independent hip hop magazine "Mik's News" (later on "MK Zwo") blessed the clubs and jams with his amazing DJ-sets and became a household name during the 90's. He is still active as a skilled DJ and a heavy vinyl collector in the scene.

Representing New Jersey to the fullest, Miilkbone stepped to the scene in 1994 with the piano-driven single "Keep It Real", followed by the full-length debut release "Da Miilkrate" in 1995.

In the ghetto landscapes of the Delaney projects in his hometown of Perth Amboy, New Jersey, hip hop became the soundtrack of Miilkbone's life. As b-boy kids bounced their ill pills with the mad swagger of basketball macks, the boo-boom of Rakim and Kool G Rap inspired the moods, grooves and attitudes of a new generation of rhyme slayers.

Mainly produced by the likes of former Illtown protégé Mufi, Naughty By Nature's very own Kay Gee and up-and-coming Nick Wiz, the album remains a highlight from the golden era in the catalogue of rap from New Jersey.

"Ya Oughta Know" should have been the title of the debut album of Sons Of Sam, the Philly-based duo comprised of The Xav and PA-Kid. Here we have a collection of 12 tracks recorded between 1993 to 1994 plus the bonus track "Glass Eyes" from 1996.

Going back in time, Xav says "The Sons Of Sam title is not what it seems. Everybody thought we were modeling ourselves after Charles Manson the mass murderer of the 70's. Actually, the truth is that we are brothers who have a father named Sam. Easy as that. But we do manage to murder the mic from time to time and an appropriate name would have been the Mic Manglers. We did our own tracks when we worked as individuals but when we were both on tracks together PA-Kid originally did the tracks. He could make any track fit both of our styles and if it didn't fit I would usually adapt to the style of the track. PA-Kid's original name was Samson and i was called Xay. That was given to my by a fellow MC named Manifest in 1986 when i was his DJ. I started writing more and began recording my own tracks."

Ill-Ko consists of rappers Jason, Rob Dollars and Finess as well as producer SG, representing New York, New Jersey and Kansas City, MO. Dropping the tape-only "Heavy Hittas Volume 1" release in 1998, the group created a certain buzz in the underground scene which shortly after led to the again self-released follow-up 12" single "Illy-I" in 1999. All tracks from both releases are now reissued for the very first time, accompanied by rare and unreleased photographies of the group straight from the negatives.

Originally released in 1997 on CD only, the sophomore album "Everything Is Nice" by Prose & Concepts finally gets the full reissue treatment. The group comprised of MC Dope, SharkE, Mic Dub, Beatnik, DJ Ace and Rawi were sporting the Seattle underground sound of heavy drums and dusty loops paired with cuts back and forth.

In addition, the album includes the "Bass Camp Demo" version of "Higher Places". The original track might be known to diggers from the excellent "14 Fathoms Deep" compilation released on Loosegroove Records in 1996 showcasing the vivid Seattle Hip-Hop scene in the mid-90's.

The Oakland duo The B.U.M.S. dropped their debut album "Lyfe'N'Tyme" in 1995 with the help of Bay Area legends Sway and King Tech. The production was mostly handled by Joe Quixx plus one track each produced by Fred Wreck and the Baka Boyz.

Hailing from Elgin, Illinois, the Rec Center is a collective composed of six MC’s with impeccable gifts of gab and a DJ blessed with the art of spinning. The group's debut "Next School Pioneers" dropped in 1995 via Peanuts & Corn, a Canadian underground label run by mcenroe. "Comprehension" followed in 1999, originally self-released on CD only accompanied by a now hard-to-find 12" release.

The album features mic guests such as Odario, Ismaila and Fayce as well as productions by mcenroe, The Buddha and Howard Hyman.

The debut album of New York based rapper and producer Godfather Don was originally released in 1991 via Select Records and gained an undeniable grail status amongst fans and collectors. Entirely produced by Don himself, the album is a hard-hitter from front to back and we are honored to finally give this masterpiece the reissue treatment 30+ years after it's initial release.

The Starvin Art Clique consisted of Christopher "30 Fingaz" Gittens, Robert "Hawaii" Russell and DJ Joe "Guess Who?" Davidge and "Starving Art" was their only album. The full production was handled by Guess Who? and Shane "The Doctor" Faber, features included artists such as Shawn Smith, Jaie, Mekolicious and others.

Originally released on CD on Joe Davidge's Overkast Records in 1998, the release was accompanied by a then and now hard-to-find 12" EP with 5 tracks of the album plus an instrumental version.

On "Mixed Emotions", the Brooklyn-based Dysfunkshunal Familee consisted of Braindead, D-Rock, Rebel Rhyme and Crazy DJ Bazarro. Recorded between 1994-98, the album still has that special Bushwick underground vibe and feel. Bazarro's words on the project: "What a time to be alive. We just sat in the crib making music, having fun, playstation, trying to change the world in our little world. Everything we talk about then is happening now. Good luck in the game called life. So many mixed emotions on this ride."

The members of Down Ta Erf consists of a production team of twin brothers Wall & Steel, one emcee Mathematik. The trio would first meet on the football field sharing the back field as running backs for the Eagles in a local (Scarborough, Toronto) youth football league, a few years later into their teens they would link again to form what we now know as Down Ta Erf. During the early developing years the crew would go on to focus on creating the purest most original interpretation of the music and the times that they could, digging both within themselves and the crates as well. What took place was the creation of a special time capsule of music brought to you by a crew that truly live and breathe the culture of music.

With "Breaking Atoms", the trio comprised of K-Cut, Sir Scratch and Large Professor delivered a timeless classic in Hip Hop history. The album features cameos by a young Nasty Nas, Joe Fatal and Akinyele as well as a co-production by Pete Rock. Setting standards with its »crunchy digitized drums, choppy segmented samples, and murky filtered basslines«, as Ben Detrick wrote in the Village Voice, the album received 4.5 mics in the Source that later on in 2002 were revised to 5 mics.

Next up on "90's Tapes" are the demo 4-track recordings of Yusef Afloat's "Foreign Objects" and "Hard Times".

Known as one half of legendary Westcoast group The Nonce (along with Nouka Basstype aka Sach), MC/producer/musician Yusef Afloat produced tracks for Aceyalone, Supherb, and Figures Of Speech. He also appeared on the original 1994 release of Project Blowed. On May 21, 2000, Yusef "Afloat" Muhammad was found dying on the side of Freeway 110 in Los Angeles, he was 28 years old. The cause of his death is still unknown.

"When I listen to Yusef now, I'm reminded of what I felt then and that is he knew his time on Earth was limited. The tone was new, stern authoritative on his views and expressions of Hip Hop. I knew he was talking to me and each one of our peers. The tapes have been safe for 20 years thanks to Dee Skee for maintaining archives at Weightless Audio. The implications that I knew someone who may have said things because their span was going to be cut. I'm thinking he saw clearer than we could. I felt he wanted to be a guide in the discovery of what kind of Man I would live to be and what kind of Man listening to this music would turn out to be? I don't know if I had inclinations of my time being so short what I would have been spending it doing and he spent his saying these weighted lines. I thought it abrasive at first but I understand now why he said what he said and how with style! I miss him everyday and I'm so proud that Yusef's music can finally be showcased to the world in the beautiful way it is deserving. I'm blown back looking at the pictures, so many sat on that couch Yusef sits Ganjah K, Meen Green. What great sessions… no magical sessions. Preparing to play this record we would probably roll something and get comfortable on that couch… well… drop the needle! Push play!"

Originally released in 1996 on Lethal Records, the entire album "Sex, Props, Cream ... And The Drama In Between" by Long Island's Punk Barbarians finally gets a proper re-release on 2LP and cassette. The original 1LP missed a few tracks off the album, so this is actually the very first time you can hear the full release on your turntable.

In November 1996, The Source gave 3 and a half mic's and here's what Miles Marshall Lewis wrote about the Punk Barbarians debut album: "It seems like recently in rap, everybody's album is based on one of these three concepts, but they're not dealing with the reality of the drama in between," says Doozer mid album, discussing Sex, Props, Cream & The Drama In Between title of his Punk Barbairan crew's debut album. The PBs - Sunny Cheeba, Bam Bam, Doozer and Renegade (aka Shine On) - arrive to a ravaged hip-hop landscape with high aspirations: detailing the drama in between libido, recognition and economics could fill 14 albums, much less the 14 tracks on Sex, Prop, Cream - in essence merely struggle - is, after all, the basis of life itself.
With their work cut out for them, the Punk Barbarians still manage to leave a strong mark. Their lively interplay - with an engaging reminiscent of an Onyx or Lost Boyz - sounds honest, like a crew that's been together since the sandboxes of their native Long Island. The fousome bounce off each other like perfectly arranged quadraphonic accoustics, particularly with thepulsing "Blast Off" and the Spanish-guitar textured "Sweets". Jazzy production includes snippets of vibe and harp that echo masters like Lionel Hampton and Alice Coltrane, while simultaneously evoking the aesthetic feel of The Low End Theory. Some tracks - "The Struggle" (which features Donald Byrd) and "You Don't Know" - ride the line between simple influence and imitation of Tribe's jazz-rap masterpice, but with an intuitive understanding rather than mere bastardization.
"Hooptie Car" shins as a diamond in the rough, dreamily escapist like the Pharcyde's "Passing Me By". As Sunny and Doozer reference Grce Jones and Donna Summer - "Pull up to my bumper," "Toot toot, ah, beep beep" - in mid-rhyme, the irony of this track's dopeness sets in. Because while the Punk Barbarians allude to "Malcolm, Martin and Marcus and W.E.B." on "Rest In Peace" and speak of how their rhymes are "killing you like daily intakes of swine," on "Magic," their real flavor is best presented on frivolous cut like "Hooptie Car."
Sex, Props, Cream & The Drama In Between remains an excellent starting point for the PB quartet, and unless their name erects an Alkaholis-like stumbling block, they should have time to display an interesting evolution.

Adagio! (pronounced "A-dee-gee-o") stands for "A Definition of Ambition, Goals, Interest and Organization!". The Juggaknots-affiliated New York and Philadelphia based underground hip-hop duo consisting of Rayme Supreme (Raymond Fogle) and Big Cousin also known as The Obvious Wonder (Brian Pritchett aka Carta' P.) had a few 12" releases from 1996 on that still appear on many wantlists. Endangered Species' “Intangible” was an underground classic released in 1999 on cassette in a very limited run, when word got out this music somehow spread from Calgary throughout Canada to Chicago, Australia, Europe & beyond. The producer / MC combo of Nohow & Infinite P produced the record on the ASR-10 in their dusty home studio using records & a Roland digital 8 track. The only guest appearances were from Agape (Isosceles) who also produced "Fortified Aorta" & DJ Vinroc (5th Platoon / Triple Threat DJ’s), a song they recorded on tour. 21 years later this record finally gets it’s proper reissue treatment on vinyl, cassette and digitally.

’See You Soon’ is the third album from Tokyo-based UK native submerse on the Project: Mooncircle imprint. A mélange of Slow-Jams, R&B, Hip Hop and Soul created while on a steady diet of 90’s NBA basketball and Dreamcast games. ’See You Soon’ features collaborations from fellow Tokyo-based artist Fitz Ambro$e and L.A.-based Devin Morrison and Pink Siifu.
